Briar Hill Primary School

Briar Hill is a warm and happy school with well-being at the heart. All children are challenged, nurtured and inspired to achieve highly and make a positive contribution to society.

Food

As a school, we strongly believe in the social benefits of children eating together in a ‘family’ atmosphere and therefore we hope that parents will support the School Meals Provider (Caterlink), whenever possible.

The cost of a school meal and payment details are stated on the school information sheet which is available upon request.

Families receiving Income Support may be eligible for free meals and confidential information is available from the school office.

Caterlink provide nutritionally balanced, delicious meals cooked in school, in lines with the dietary requirements of the children in our school.

Menus are sent home in advance and provide a range of options. Meals do need to be booked in advance, please contact the school office for more information and the weekly menu is sent out on MCAS and is online

Packed lunches

Children who bring in packed lunches are encouraged to bring healthy food, wherever possible.

As a school, we actively encourage our children to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Children in KS1 receive a free piece of fruit as part of the School’s National Fruit and Vegetables Scheme. We discourage children from bringing sweets or chocolate, advocating a healthy snack instead. Children are encouraged to drink water freely throughout the day. Whilst we cannot claim to be a nut-free school, we do promote a nut-free environment and would ask all parents and carers to support us with this, by checking what you are sending in and restricting nut-based products or products that may contain nuts as much as possible.

Fizzy drinks are not allowed in school and fruit drinks are not allowed outside the lunch box. Milk is provided free of charge to children under five. It is delivered to school and stored in a fridge to ensure the children enjoy a cool drink at break time.

Breakfast club

Breakfast Club is available every school day during term time.

The club opens at 7.45am and closes as the school day starts at 8.45 am. The club costs £3.50 per day and children are provided with a healthy choice of breakfasts and drinks.

Caterlink provide nutritionally balanced, delicious meals cooked in school. Menus are sent home in advance and provide a vegetarian option.
