Diwali Town Parade

On Saturday November 7th, the Year 5 children, parents, Miss Gribble and Mrs Gribble met at the Northampton Guildhall where their fabulous elephant lamps were waiting. We were one of six Northampton primary schools to be taking part in the procession.

Our lamps took pride of place at the front of the parade behind the five-metre by three-metre elephant called Harminder the Hathi (Elephant) and a new Big Diva. The procession tells the epic Hindu story of the Ramayan, in which evil is defeated by the godly king, Lord Ram. Hindus celebrate Diwali over five days, which includes their New Year.

There was a super atmosphere in the town centre and it was a real privilege to be part of the Diwali celebrations.
