Sports

Sports and Clubs are an important part of life at Briar Hill. We have fun and varied PE and Games lessons where we develop our skills in Gymnastics, Dance, Athletics, Games and Outdoor Adventurous Activities.

·

Every child receives 2 hours of PE lessons per week, plus daily engagement with our ‘Golden Mile’, lunch time activities and the opportunities to participate in our after school active sports clubs. Our PE lessons and after school sports clubs offer the children a broad experience of many different sports.

·

During PE lessons, children develop core skills to enable them to become well rounded sportsmen and sportswomen. We incorporate the School Games core values of Respect, Honesty, Teamwork, Passion, Determination and Self-Belief.

·

Children are given the opportunity to swim during KS2 and we aim for all pupils leaving school at the end of Year 6 to be able to swim at least 25m.

·

All children have the opportunity to participate in a range of sporting tournaments and sports festival, in school and with other. Our annually participate in DRET Primary Cup and Summer Cup is a fantastic opportunity to showcase their sporting talents.

·

Visits from local sports coaches to international GB Team athletes have visited our school, shared their sporting history and experiences with the children and engaged in teaching them their individual sport.

·

Children in Year 5 and 6 play an important role in delivering a range of activities during lunch time and their motto is ‘Inclusion and Encouragement’.

·

Events throughout the year promote inclusion, team building skills, a sense of achievement and self-belief and we celebrate keeping active as a whole school: Autumn term is ‘Briar Hill Gets Active’, Spring term is ‘School Games Day’, Summer term is ‘May The Sports Be With You’ and our school ‘Sports Day’.
